Shaped by the terrors of Nazi-occupied Poland and the subsequent brutalities of the Communist regime, John Paul II became one of the world’s greatest proponents of religious freedom and human rights. With rare historical stills and archival footage, along with new location footage taken in Rome and Poland, this richly textured film traces the personal life and struggles of the first non-Italian pope in over 450 years. Based on George Weigel’s book of the same title, Witness to Hope is a complete and intimate portrait of an extraordinary leader.

Deserves to be Very Widely Seen
This is a powerful, effective, moving telling of the life of John Paul with documentary footage and recollections by those who knew him.
And based as it is on the comprehensive masterpiece by George Weigel, it also comes with Weigel's exhaustively thorough examination of John Paul's colossal effect on the twentieth century, still so little recognised
"John Paul's colossal effect on the twentieth century, still so little recognised" ... Alas!
What this masterful DVD can do is make a reparation to that situation.
For John Paul's life and work have been so often calumnied by the media that he becomes invisible ...
One thinks of Gandhi, who John Paul rightly regarded as a great man.
All the world so regards ... the Eastern man of Peace ...
But John Paul the great CATHOLIC man of peace has so often gone unregarded in a world hostile to Catholicism.
The lies and distortions are pernicious indeed.
What a film like this can serve to do is to awaken us all to the immensity of John Paul's contribution, his vast, vast contribution to not only the Catholic Church, but to our entire civilisation.
If you want to know John Paul and only have two hours I urge you to see this film.
And if you know and love John Paul already, I feel like urging you to make this film available to your family and friends.
In that way, you may help to make amends to the injustice done to him by the mainstream media.

Witness to a Lovely Life
"Witness to Hope" is a moving tribute to our late Pope John Paul II. I enjoyed being educated all over again about the life of this amazingly spiritual human being. It is an inspirational history lesson for all Catholics, & for younger children who did not have the honor of knowing about the pontificate of this incredible man.

Witness to Hope
The video uses archival footage and photos along with the more recent photographic updates to perfection. In places where re-enactments were necessary they were done so well with attention to detail in every respect that the viewer was not distracted by "actors acting." The entire production seamlessly flowed; one could gain insight into the life of this great man and how his early years formed him and how the later years drew upon the character which had been forged in those difficult times. This is an important video for anyone interested in the life of Pope John Paul II.

The Definite Biography of John Paul II
This is absolutely the BEST biography out there on John Paul II. Unlike those by A & E or NBC or the like, it is simply based on the facts. Many of the other "biographies" have sections in them based on the agenda of the filmmaker. Usually taking the position of admonishment against the Pope for not being a liberal American. This one is just the opposite. It deals with John Paul II with no agenda other than to give a close and intimate portrait of the man. It is well produced and documented. I have seen hours and hours of documentaries on the late Pontiff and I would recommend this as the best.

Extraordinary Witness
This presentation of the life of John Paul II is extremely thorough, well-researched, and insightfully relayed. I highly recommend it.
