In Austen's gentle parody of gothic fiction, Felicity Jones (Meadowlands) plays romance addict Catherine Morland. Invited to a medieval country house that appeals to her most lurid fantasies, she forms a close friendship with the younger son on the estate, Henry Tilney (JJ Feild, The Secret Life of Mrs. Beeton), but their budding romance is mysteriously cut short. Adapted by Andrew Davies.

A Great Adaptation of the Classic Story
I have always enjoyed Jane Austin's Northanger Abby. Up until recently I felt there was a lack of a good film adaptation of this classic. After watching this movie, I have changed my opinion. The cast of characters is excellent!

This was fantastic!!
This was great! Truly this was the best romance movie that I have watched in a very long time. I really liked the main characters and they definitley had some on screen chemistry too lol! But nothing dirty mind you this is very clean. I just loved the whole gothic feel and the music is beautiful.

Cute, light, and fluffy
Northanger Abbey is probably the "lightest" of Austen's novel, and this adaptation is the lightest film adaptation I've ever seen. It's been "sexed up" for modern audiences by the inclusion of several fantasy or dream sequences which I found rather obnoxious and disturbing. My young kids were in the room when this movie was on, and it was the only time I've ever been concerned that Austen wasn't suitable for children. The two leads are charming and fun to watch, and the film stays mostly true to the story. I enjoyed it but can't say it's one of my favorites.

Northanger Abbey
For many of us who enjoy the works of Jane Austen, this is by far the best adaptation of the book. Felicity Jones was a perfect Katherine Morland. I enjoyed the dialog, the scenary and the players. Although not true to the book in certain areas, this version was nice (perhaps too short) and sweet and I know Jane Austen would have approved!

Too short
The movie stays pretty much true to the book. However, I would have liked to see the relationship between Catherine and Mr. Thorpe develop a little more. He is a lot more crafty and persistent in the book. I would have also liked to have seen more time alloted to Northanger Abbey. I was just getting the feel of it when it was time to move on. The ending was a little abrupt. However, all in all I liked the movie and would recommend it to friends.
